Thinking Free
Posted by thecanvasgrey on May 14, 2008
I come from a family of free thinkers. When we come together we express ourselves when we agree on something and when we don’t. Sometimes our discussions lead to heated, passionate philosophical debates which become uncomfortable to some observers. After the dust settles we still love and respect one another, at least from my point of view, and we still have hearty appetites at dinner.
If pushed I lean to the “political right” in most eyes but my spirit cries out for truth in whatever form it comes. I find truth in many of the writings of Leonard Pitts, Jr., writer, Pulitzer Prize winner and columnist for the Miami Herald. One of his recent columns really struck a cord with me and is worth the read (titled UNIFORMITY KILLS FREEDOM).
I dedicate this post to a wonderful, passionate woman, whom I admire for her ” sassy politically incorrect” posts and her constant push for us to think: Angie

PS Mom and Dad, THANK YOU!

That is very lucky. I grew up in a family that didn’t like my free thinking. I now have no contact with my biological family and limited contact with my adopted family. But my in-laws love me so I must be doing something right

Wow CG..I was reading what you wrote and thinking..yeah that’s how we always were..and then your dedication..I am blown away..thank you from a very grateful heart that you would even think of me..
My Mama was not comfortable at Holiday time because of our loud gregarious family..especially my Auntie who loved to debate..but she never said anything..she would listen and cringe when we would get home and Daddy would gripe about her sister’s mouth..LOL! maybe that’s where I got my big mouth..LOL!
Love you
