Walmart, Claire’s, et. al. STOP SELLING TOXIC KIDS STUFF!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on January 13, 2010

I can hardly believe there is more stuff being sold from China with cadmium, another toxic metal. Cadmium is even more toxic than lead, which was found in kids toys from China and asbestos was found in some clay products awhile back.

I say it is time to hold the stores that are selling this stuff accountable PERIOD.

Fear…No Fear?

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on October 28, 2009

My greatest fear isn’t H1N1 or an asteroid or 2012… My greatest fear is we are being programmed TO fear. Discretion is an under used word!

Control

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on May 6, 2009

We all need to keep that in mind the following little eye opener….when we think we have to control it all or if we think we have it all under control…

A pastor had been on a long flight between church conferences. The first
warning of the approaching problems came when the sign on the airplane
flashed on: Fasten Your Seat Belts.
Then, after a while, a calm voice said, “We shall not be serving the
beverages at this time as we are expecting a little turbulence. Please be
sure your seat belt is fastened..”

As the pastor looked around the aircraft, it became obvious that many of the
passengers were becoming apprehensive. Later, the voice on the intercom
said, “We are so sorry that we are unable to serve the meal at this time.
The turbulence is still ahead of us.”
And then the storm broke .. . .

The ominous cracks of thunder could be heard even above the roar of the
engines. Lightning! lit up the darkening skies, and within moments that
great plane was like a cork tossed around on a celestial ocean. One moment
the airplane was lifted on terrific currents of air; the next, it dropped as
if were about to crash.

The pastor confessed that he shared the discomfort and fear of those around
him. He said, “As I looked around the plane, I could see that nearly all the
passengers were upset and alarmed. Some were praying. The future seemed
ominous and many were wondering if they would make it through the storm.

“Then, I suddenly saw a little girl. Apparently the storm meant nothing to
her. She had tucked her feet beneath her as she sat on her seat; she was
reading a book and every-
thing within her small world was calm and orderly.

“Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again; then she would
straighten her legs, but worry and fear were not in her world.
When the plane was being buffeted by the terrible storm when it lurched this
way and that, as it rose and fell with frightening severity, when all the
adults were scared half to death, that marvelous child was completely
composed and unafraid.” The minister could hardly believe his eyes.

It was not surprising therefore, that when the plane finally reached its
destination and all the passengers were hurrying to disembark, our pastor
lingered to speak to the girl whom he had watched for such a long time.
Having commented about the storm and the behavior of the plane, he asked why
she had not been afraid..

The child replied, “Cause my Daddy’s the pilot, and he’s taking me home.”

One Hundred Days with Little to No Change

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on April 28, 2009

What a mess we are in! And I am getting the full force of it all…coming and going!

Not only have many of my good investments gone down with the ship from greedy CEOs and board members being baled out but this tidal wave of tax and spend is nothing more than “robbing Peter to pay Paul” and means I will also get taxed to death.

When do those of us who’ve played by the rules, done the right thing and are law abiding citizens going to get treated right?

I mean it. I can hardly believe this is the America I pledge to….

It really makes me wonder if the small businesses I see here in Hampton Roads going out of business is because of true economic hard times or something else.

For years I’ve wondered how all these businesses competed and now I know…through massive debt, which was plainly stated by the President himself.

So now…our country is going to do the same thing…it really, really makes no sense whatsoever!

Why would you want to take something that is so bloated up and try to bloat it even more unless there was a reason?

So what is the reason…a depression? How will more debt make that go away? No one is making any sense any more.

It seems to be political posturing with global domination, power and greed…just like the past…nothing has changed…only the players.

By the way, Facebook has edited a recent post of mine.  It didn’t contain any thing anyone would consider rude or obscene.  It was a critic’s point of view of the recent change they made to their forum.  It gives me pause…a great pause.

Movie: New In Town…Oddity

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on February 15, 2009

Thanks to my husband, on Valentine’s Day I got to see “New In Town” the movie with Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr. It was a simple, good movie. I enjoyed it.

However, I saw something strange duirng the movie. I searched the web but didn’t find anything about it. So…in case anyone else does a search maybe they will find my entry here.

During the scene that Zellweger walked with other carolers toward the Christmas tree, she looked into a crowd (in which Connick was standing) and in the crowd I saw something odd. But didn’t have enough time to distinguish what I was seeing and I’ve puzzled over it since.

Any one else have information to offer on that?

Hey Media, what does this mean…exactly?

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on October 11, 2008

It seems we’ve been upgrading computers and machines and downgrading our humanity and individuality for so long it is hard to spot until the finger is pointed at us.

Could any of us take the scrutiny that so many take in the media these days?

From a mother disciplining her child in what she thought was private; to whether a FEMALE candidate should have her young family with her; to a mother so divided between so many duties, wife, mother, housekeeper, executive that she would forget her own newborn, these are ordinary people thrust into the limelight.  Being judged as if there was no humanity and that they should have never made a mistake or done that, shame on them.

Have you compared them with the Hollywood elite that all the media root for to do better, Brittany, Paris, Lindsey?  Seems they can make repeated mistakes, vowing to do something better with their lives and…well, you know the rest…they are rubber and we are glue.

Feel left out as an ordinary person?  What if it happened to you?  Which category would you fall into?

It makes one wonder if “us worker bees” are being set up to work as computers with nary a mistake to be made and those that are deemed by the media as “queen bees” get passes for being “human.”

Makes a difference as to how the media depits it all, doesn’t it?  Bias in the media?  Oh come on…they are all fair and balanced.

So which island will you land on?   THE ISLAND

Good Night, Sleep Tight

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on September 27, 2008

And pleasant dreams to you!

My Dad passed away last month.  Even when it is their time and they’ve lived a good, long life it still is difficult.  In more ways than I can explain.

We were a Lawrence Welk family, pizza every Saturday night with pleasant singing and dancing, nothing too risky for children; just simple melodies with great harmony.  I’ve sung this song a million times to my kids at bedtime.  Big Boy is almost ten and Young Son is five and they still love hearing it.  It is comforting, lovely and satisfying to know that someone who loves them sings this into their ears until they fall asleep.

I’d like to dedicate this post to Dad.  I was blessed to have him in my life.  He taught me so much.  I’m so thankful he knew how much I loved him. I wonder if he knows how much I miss him.  I hope he knows that I’ll see him again.

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you.

Here’s a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true.

Although it’s always sweet sorrow to part.

You know you’ll always remain in my heart.

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you.

Here’s a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true.

And now till we meet again, adios, au revoir, auf Wiedersehen, good night.

Just Wondering…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on July 31, 2008

I appreciate so much the advice about a vacuum from everyone!

So that brings me to another issue I’ve been wondering about…

I’ve been getting requests for the costs of text links and advertising on my blog, anyone else getting these?

Thoughts?

PS.  I’ve checked into these as much as one can online and they seem to be legit.

Cleaning House!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on July 29, 2008

If you have a quick second I need your input.

My vacuum just died and I’m having a party!!!  Seriously, it was a Sears, I’ll never buy anything there again, Kenmore and I HATED it!

So I’m asking for input about what you’d get or got that you love.  I DID love my previous Sears, old school when a customer was valued, Kenmore canister (1983 to 2001 they don’t make them like that any more).

Can you tell I’ve had a HUGE falling out with Sears???  I’ll leave that for another time cause I’ve got dust bunnies a-matin’! ha

I’ve read reviews until my eyes are crossed!

I’ve looked at Rainbows, Orecks, Eureka and Miele.  I’ve tried the Dirt Devils and some wind tunnel types via friends and they didn’t impress me at all.   Detractors to Rainbow are expense and water problems, Oreck I’ve heard that stuff binds on the brush and it gets clogged up, Eureka are mixed and I mean mixed reviews, Miele I’ve heard good things about and Consumer Reports recommend and those are pricey too.

Just a quick word or two about these or yours or others you’ve had and recommend.

THANK YOU!!!

Points of View

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on July 28, 2008

A friend sent me something with this at the bottom; food for thought.
Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this comparison chart should make things a little bit clearer:
@ PRISONYou spend most of your time in a 10X10 cell

@ WORKYou spend most of your time in a 6X6 cubicle

@ PRISONYou get three fully paid for meals a day

@ WORKYou get a break for one meal, andyou have to pay for it

@ PRISONFor good behavior, you get time off

@ WORKFor good behavior, you get more work

@ PRISONThe guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you

@ WORKYou must carry a security card and open all the doors yourself

@ PRISONYou can watch TV and play games

@ WORKYou could get fired for watching
TV and playing games

@ PRISONYou get your own toilet

@ WORKYou have to share the toilet with
people who pee on the seat

@ PRISONThey allow your family and friends to visit

@ WORKYou aren’t even supposed
to speak to your family

@ PRISONAll expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required on your part

@ WORKYou must pay all your expenses to go
to work, and they deduct taxes from
your salary to pay for prisoners

@ PRISONYou spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out

@ WORKYou spend most of your time wanting
to get out and go inside bars

@ PRISONYou must deal with sadistic wardens

@ WORKThey are called ‘managers’

THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE.

And the survey says…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on July 22, 2008

How many times have you been asked about taking a survey?  About a million?  They catch you at the mall or phone during dinner or offer you a chance for cash if call them with your opinion or my favorite just as you are on the way to the bathroom your doorbell rings!  Trying to be polite while doing the pee-pee dance isn’t fun nor is it easy!!!!

I issued a challenge to readers at Fighting Windmills to just stop particiapating in surveys.

Here’s what I said, ” I’d like to challenge everyone: Refuse to comply or stop taking the surveys that ask us about our ethnic background, economic standing, gender, whether we have kids, you know, they are every where these days. I think these types of things fan the flames and give advertisers and media more power; more power to divide and conquer as opposed to join/enjoy each other.”

I realize that there are important surveys that make differences for low income, education grants, etc.  I’m speaking to all the advertising/media type surveys. I think C’s idea was brilliant!  Go read the whole post when you can it is a great post.

The Waiting Game

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on June 28, 2008

I need some freedom from this unknown (ripping hair out of head).   Our job situation and where we will land.

Patience is a virtue and I’m showing my lack there of lately.  Ever been there, done that?

Patience builds perseverance….hang in there!  It is NOT panic time yet!!!  It takes time for God to work things out sometimes for better than we imagined.

Okay, I have my moments.  ha  This one has passed.  Thanks for listening, understanding because we’ve all been there and done that!  🙂

It really does take time to get things set up…God has to move mountains AND people too! ha

Have a great weekend.

Love & Peace
