I Can Change Myself…REALLY!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on July 18, 2013

I’m of a mind that nothing stands between me and what I want except for the fear it may not work or change things so drastically that I’ll be “sorry”…so I decided to change my perception.  I realized that the experience of trying and dealing with anything that could happen sure beats the feeling of never going for it and wishing that I did.  So now when I feel less than worthy, feel nervous, feel unsure, I transmute that energy and thinking to…What can I do to make this an opportunity for something I REALLY want!    This has gotten me through many things that I (and others) have perceived as devastating or situations that were hurtful at the time.  Another thing, for me that is important, is to give myself time to process these devastating, hurtful, unexpected changes (which come to everyone).  I changed myself and perceive the best outcome for everyone (myself included), this has never let me down.

Hope that makes sense and that in some way it can help you too!

Competition – How to know

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on June 9, 2012

Competition is competing against oneself whether the ego will let self see it or not…therefore, bad sportsmanship exemplifies the ego against itself and all its faults…good sportsmanship accepts that for today the best was the best….center reflects enjoyment/thankfulness of the competition for all that it is.

Ringin IN 2010!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on January 4, 2010

I’m looking forward to a great 2010!

I’ve heard that from nearly everyone I’ve gotten email from, talked to and seen on FB.  The excitement in the air about 2010 is palpable.

I can’t remember when …well, yes I can, I think many people were so worried about Y2K and working their butts off in 1999 to prevent “the unspeakable horrors” the clock turning to 2000 could bring that everyone was looking forward to the “end” of what nightmares COULD happen.

Maybe that was the start of all this doom and end of the world talk that seems to dominate everything these days.  It is (of course) at the movies, in the news, on all my favorite channels, History, Discovery, Science; whether they are talking about Nostradamus, the Holy Bible, the Mayan calendar or other forseers they want to use to prove the “disaster looming” point.

The positive lesson to take from all this is … MAYBE…  all we have is today.

Today is the PRESENT so maybe we should treat it like a GIFT and ENJOY!

Bah Hum Bird!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on November 24, 2009

So let me get this straight…I have to get up at 1am Thursday morning to start the big bird, go back to bed at 2am and then wake up on the hour to baste until 5am and then start preparing 20 side dishes, 2 pies, 2 cakes…all between one oven and a small microwave, set the table to look like something from Martha Stewart’s Living, look like I stepped out of Vogue as I serve it…then do two loads in the dishwasher whilst washing all the big stuff which puts me at about 1am Friday morning and then I’m supposed to get up at 4am and stand in line to shop in over crowded stores for bargains whilst everyone else watches football games and marathon TVLand episodes????

BAH HUM BIRD!!!!!!!!!!!

What I REALLY want is my own reality show just to get this documented!

Escape and Release Your Gifts!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on June 8, 2009

Please don’t be so hard on yourself, others aren’t (at least people that really matter)!

Most of us struggle with self-consciousness issues. We can’t let that stop us!

I could name several people (who aren’t so nice) that are successful and put themselves out there all the time on TV and film. And then there are really nice people who give uplifting information and try to help (aka Oprah, if that end of the spectrum helps).

Those who know us know what we look like and still like or love us for the people we ARE!

Look at everyone around you that speaks well of you. bending over backwards to do so at times.  There is a large positive ripple effect there, why not be the stone that causes the ripple.

If all anyone cared about was what a person looked like then yikes, we’d all be like Hollywood…ick…what a depressing world that would be.  Picking each other apart instead of building each other up or working together.

Focus and capitalize on your strengths and forget about (what you perceive as) weaknesses…everyone wins that way! Why? You win and the people around you win because you share with them your gifts instead of coddling them in self-consciousness.

Sending love and good thoughts, Debi

Emails you just can’t resist sharing…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on April 2, 2008

Thanks to my friend Deb who emailed me this recycling email.  This is funny, I don’t care who you are!

Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America…. Kentuckians, Tennesseans and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as “HILLBILLIES” you must now refer to them as “APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS.”

Furthermore:

She is not a “BABE” or a “CHICK” – She is a “BREASTED AMERICAN.”

She is not “EASY” – She is “HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE.”

She is not a “DUMB BLONDE” – She is a “LIGHT-HAIRED DETOUR OFF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY.”

She has not “BEEN AROUND” – She is a “PREVIOUSLY-ENJOYED COMPANION.”

She does not “NAG” – She becomes “VERBALLY REPETITIVE.”

She is not a “TWO-BIT HOOKER” – She is a “LOW COST PROVIDER.”

He does not have a “BEER GUT” – He has developed a “LIQUID GRAIN STORAGE FACILITY.”

He is not a “BAD DANCER” – He is “OVERLY CAUCASIAN.”

He does not “GET LOST ALL THE TIME” – He “INVESTIGATES ALTERNATIVE DESTINATIONS.”

He is not “BALDING” – He is in “FOLLICLE REGRESSION.”

He does not act like a “TOTAL ASS” – He develops a case of RECTAL-CRANIAL INVERSION.”

It’s not his “CRACK” you see hanging out of his pants – It’s “REAR CLEAVAGE.”

Happy April Fool’s Day

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 31, 2008

Here is a link to the top 100 April Fool’s jokes (per this site).
 My favorite is #10:
#10: Planetary Alignment Decreases Gravity

In 1976 the British astronomer Patrick Moore announced on BBC Radio 2 that at 9:47 AM a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event was going to occur that listeners could experience in their very own homes. The planet Pluto would pass behind Jupiter, temporarily causing a gravitational alignment that would counteract and lessen the Earth’s own gravity. Moore told his listeners that if they jumped in the air at the exact moment that this planetary alignment occurred, they would experience a strange floating sensation. When 9:47 AM arrived, BBC2 began to receive hundreds of phone calls from listeners claiming to have felt the sensation. One woman even reported that she and her eleven friends had risen from their chairs and floated around the room.

Whew!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 29, 2008

Some weeks are just more hectic than others…and I’m thankful for it.

s2400061.jpgLast week included replacing a hot water heater. Thanks to Hungry Hubby it was done in less than four days and cost $400 less than any estimate.  Thanking God it happened AFTER Easter dinner (literally right after dishes were done) AND that we live in a time when we have hot water coming straight to a faucet near you!

I’m finally taking a moment to review our Easter weekend in pictures.  Colored Easter eggs, chocolate covered Easter eggs and dinner with my first souffle.

The Art of ABILITIES

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 18, 2008

I believe that life should be about what we CAN do.  After all not everyone can run a race much less win it.  Not everyone can focus for long periods of time to solve/work on the theories of time and space and how we can invent a worm hole.  Nor are most of us able (in my case willing) to strut themselves among the red carpet/reality crowd (ick).

So in my corner of the world I am about what we are ABLE to do.  Figuring out the big picture for our lives, sifting in desires, gifts, love, passion, responsibility, compassion, abilities, education, understanding, desired outcome and more.  Then placing the pieces in order, minute by minute, day by day, week by week, year by year so that at some point we can see a masterpiece taking shape before us.  Our lives…what we are capable of doing throughout the course of a lifetime.

I’m proud of both my kids.  I think they are worth every minute of thought, work, effort, joy, heartache, sweat, tears, planning, change of plans, money, time, all of it…they are worth it all.

Sometimes there are moments of unexplained, unexpected, unknown gifts displayed before me and I am in awe. This is an example of that wonder and surprise from Big Boy last year at the age of eight.

He titled it “DRAGON”

Inspiration CAN lead to perspiration

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 8, 2008

I was inspired by a post at Hawty McBloggy’s place. I really got stars in my eyes when I saw these cupcake toppers.  I thought to myself, the kids would go CRAZY over something like this.  With stars blinding me I remarked I was going to try my hand at the fondant cupcakes.  Then Ms. McBloggy responded with the request for pictures.  Now I HAD to do them! ha!  Yes, it is the gamer in me.

Anyone who has been reading here knows we are really into our Wii.  Super Mario Galaxy is especially gorgeous and spectacular so I wanted to theme my cupcakes after it.  My theme is “Mario Dreams.”

So out I go to get the stuff.  First on the list white fondant.  I know, I know…white…what were you thinking…but hey, I’ve worked with clay, I paint, I’ve watched Food Network’s Ace of Cakes.  No sweat, this should be “a piece of cake” with my credentials.  ***waves of laughter over take my body***  I skipped all the implements that would have cost a small fortune but I did get some awesome color GEL.  I have to say don’t keep buying the old liquid food coloring…get some of this vivid, easy to use gel.  I’ll NEVER go back to liquid.

I hadn’t anticipated that making a few fondant cupcake toppers would take the better part of  a day.  I hadn’t anticipated how long and how many colors my “vision” would need.  I hadn’t counted on actually producing any sweat.  But I did.

s2400001.jpg

So after six straight hours on my feet I placed them proudly on the table and called in the kids for their BIG SURPRISE!  The response was MUCH LESS than imagined in my head.  ***Isn’t it always that way?***  Oh well, it was an experience.  Did you know that fondant does NOT taste good?  Looks pretty but not so great to eat.  So I wrapped them up to harden and reuse over and over again for decorations.  There is no way in heck I’m ditching them after looking at them ten minutes!  😉

So last night I watched Ace of Cakes and was re-inspired to create something with the left over fondant.  I think I’d like to make a 3 D Mario, Mama, Princess Peach or even Zelda.  One thing is for sure I’m taking one day to mix the colors and the other to actually make/shape the end product.

So here without further ado are “Mario Dreams.”  Keep in mind it is my first attempt with fondant, I’m old, decrepit and half blind…okay, not decrepit.

s2400029.jpg

FYI – The number one is the LIFE left for Mario…I’m SURE he has nightmares about THAT!

mariodreamsjpeg.jpg

***We did it!  Hungry Hubby, Big Boy, Young Son and Wailing Woman (that would be me)did it!  As of this morning, Saturday, March 15, 2008 we reached the end of Super Mario Galaxy.  This was a group effort and each of us has our own game going on but we also had a family game.  The boys were jumping up and down with joy!  It was fun and it has beautiful graphics.  The end is VERY nice!***

Invasion of the Hubby Snatchers!!!!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 7, 2008

s2400042_edited.jpgThat is right…invasion of the Hubby Snatchers…coming to a blog near you!

I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures to document the fact that I went to sleep with one large hubby and woke up to two smaller versions this morning.

  s2400043_edited.jpg

HOW do they do that and WHEN do they do that?  My hubby explains it as a push and shove proposition that takes place late at night after a spell has been cast over me.

s2400040_edited.jpg

It is quite magical and fun!  I plan to cherish these moments as they go so very quickly.

And while I’m reminded through pictures,  I’m also building ammo for the terrible teens!  😉

Excuse me while I…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 4, 2008

well, pat myself on the back…well, let someone else pat me on the back and then pass it on cause if feels so darn good that everyone should do it.

But first a pause for the cause….this important break for the brainiac in me… some appreciation and thought.

There are so many bloggers that make me think,

                                                              make me stretch,

make me realize that we all have similar thoughts,

                                                                    difficulties,

                                                                            fears,

                                                                                worries,

                                                                                           triumphs…

that we are all human.

That maybe the most wonderful part of humanity is reaching out to each other.  That on a broader scale we are more alike than different.  We are diverse but the same.

We are born, we live and we die.

A complete circle.

Circles seem to be significant.  God scattered lots of circles around.

What significance must circles be?

Okay, too deep for today….so on with the award!

I was bestowed by Maddy, whom I hold in high regard for more than a couple of reasons (she’s my Wonder Woman link), the ROYAL BANANA award, I slip you not!!!!

banana.gif     She thinks my blog is yummy!!!!  The feeling is mutual!

I’m going to pass this on to my entire blog roll (see right column under Brain Waves) of blogging buddies that have yummy blogs to me.  Please add these as you can if you want to your blogs!

Have a wonderful day (24 hour cycle, you know that circle thing).  Ta Ta!
