Walmart, Claire’s, et. al. STOP SELLING TOXIC KIDS STUFF!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on January 13, 2010

I can hardly believe there is more stuff being sold from China with cadmium, another toxic metal. Cadmium is even more toxic than lead, which was found in kids toys from China and asbestos was found in some clay products awhile back.

I say it is time to hold the stores that are selling this stuff accountable PERIOD.

Control

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on May 6, 2009

We all need to keep that in mind the following little eye opener….when we think we have to control it all or if we think we have it all under control…

A pastor had been on a long flight between church conferences. The first
warning of the approaching problems came when the sign on the airplane
flashed on: Fasten Your Seat Belts.
Then, after a while, a calm voice said, “We shall not be serving the
beverages at this time as we are expecting a little turbulence. Please be
sure your seat belt is fastened..”

As the pastor looked around the aircraft, it became obvious that many of the
passengers were becoming apprehensive. Later, the voice on the intercom
said, “We are so sorry that we are unable to serve the meal at this time.
The turbulence is still ahead of us.”
And then the storm broke .. . .

The ominous cracks of thunder could be heard even above the roar of the
engines. Lightning! lit up the darkening skies, and within moments that
great plane was like a cork tossed around on a celestial ocean. One moment
the airplane was lifted on terrific currents of air; the next, it dropped as
if were about to crash.

The pastor confessed that he shared the discomfort and fear of those around
him. He said, “As I looked around the plane, I could see that nearly all the
passengers were upset and alarmed. Some were praying. The future seemed
ominous and many were wondering if they would make it through the storm.

“Then, I suddenly saw a little girl. Apparently the storm meant nothing to
her. She had tucked her feet beneath her as she sat on her seat; she was
reading a book and every-
thing within her small world was calm and orderly.

“Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again; then she would
straighten her legs, but worry and fear were not in her world.
When the plane was being buffeted by the terrible storm when it lurched this
way and that, as it rose and fell with frightening severity, when all the
adults were scared half to death, that marvelous child was completely
composed and unafraid.” The minister could hardly believe his eyes.

It was not surprising therefore, that when the plane finally reached its
destination and all the passengers were hurrying to disembark, our pastor
lingered to speak to the girl whom he had watched for such a long time.
Having commented about the storm and the behavior of the plane, he asked why
she had not been afraid..

The child replied, “Cause my Daddy’s the pilot, and he’s taking me home.”

Help for Kids

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on July 31, 2008

I’m all about helping kids!

So when I saw this link on the Autism Blog I had to share it with anyone that reads here.  Helping kids cope with fears and anxiety.  Heck, I learned from it for myself in the first few forms listed on this one page.  So even if you don’t have a child with autism and they are having some issues, this will help.

Our kids are growing up with  the media blowing up everything into something to be excited or fearful over, our kids need to learn how to cope.

This is a GREAT site!

Invasion of the Hubby Snatchers!!!!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 7, 2008

s2400042_edited.jpgThat is right…invasion of the Hubby Snatchers…coming to a blog near you!

I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures to document the fact that I went to sleep with one large hubby and woke up to two smaller versions this morning.

  s2400043_edited.jpg

HOW do they do that and WHEN do they do that?  My hubby explains it as a push and shove proposition that takes place late at night after a spell has been cast over me.

s2400040_edited.jpg

It is quite magical and fun!  I plan to cherish these moments as they go so very quickly.

And while I’m reminded through pictures,  I’m also building ammo for the terrible teens!  😉

MEG Could Help Unlock Autistic Minds

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on November 3, 2007

BrainScan

There has been quite a bit of buzz about pediatricians learning the early signs of autism so it could be detected around the age of two.  I could go into a long winded discussion about how it is ABOUT TIME…but I won’t TODAY!  😉

Doctors may be learning another way of detecting exactly what is or isn’t going on in the brain as it relates to autism or spectrum disorders.  Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is showing doctors what works or doesn’t work in the autistic brain (our beautiful grey canvas).  The child discussed in this article is similar to my son so I’m interested in how this may develop.

There is no doubt we are making strides and learning about this mysterious issue.  I still think we have a very long, long way to go.  This science is still in an infancy of sorts; we may be trying to uncover something that could be as unique as each of us.

I’m just glad that the awareness factor has increased 10 fold since the Jenny McCarthy declaration of “cure” debacle unfolded.  I THINK she has meant well however I’ve read some other moms aren’t so happy about it, AT ALL.

If you have young children please make yourself aware (in general) of milestones they should be hitting and checking out unusual behaviour as early as possible.  I am truly convinced that early intervention can only HELP!

Autism and the Amish Revisited

Autism and the Amish Revisited

Recently at the Y I picked up a free copy of Chiropractic Wellness (http://www.cwfmonline.com/Vol7Issue09.htm) with no indication on the cover that an article about the aforementioned was within the pages.  The article has great points but most of which are not new (  www.nomercury.org/science/documents/Articles/UPI-The_Age_of_Autism-Mercury_and_the_Amish_5-21-05.pdf).

I started wondering if many are jumping onto the Autism “band wagon.”   If their intentions are good then I say come right ahead and jump in there.  Keep it in the forefront for everyone to see so we can, at the VERY least, know how and why autism is on the rise and promote awareness.  I certainly wonder if all the childhood vaccines are playing a role but I’m not certain that is all there is to it.

MY SPIN…

My main objective in discussing autism is that mothers become aware of the signs so they can be as proactive in their child’s care as possible. Early detection can possibly lead to great things because the development of their brain both physically and mentally is rapid in the first few years of life!

EASY Halloween Cookies

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on October 28, 2007

cookieshalloween.jpg

Quick and easy these https://i0.wp.com/planetsmilies.net/animal-smiley-4970.gif Halloween Cookies https://i0.wp.com/planetsmilies.net/freak-smiley-9422.gif are FUN to make!

Via cell phone my girlfriends https://i0.wp.com/planetsmilies.net/obscene-smiley-7193.gif sent me this picture of Halloween cookies they made for a party.  Enlarging makes it fuzzy but you can get the idea what they look like from it.  I get a sugar rush just from looking at them!  When they told me how to make them I was amazed at how quick, easy and inexpensive they are!

What you need:  Oreos, white chocolate disks in white and green colors, small white mints, tube decorating icing in black and red.

Heat the colored white chocolate disks in two separate bowls.  Dip the Oreos in one or the other and lay on wax paper to cool.  When cool, decorate!  They made spiderwebs, eyeballs and Frankenstein

I’m not so steady with the icing tubes as they are so I might opt for the edible ink decorating pens they have out now.  What a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon with your kids!  Thanks for sharing trash talking/thrill ride scaring girlfriends!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!   https://i0.wp.com/planetsmilies.net/animal-smiley-4914.gif

DUMB, DE, DUMB, DUMB…….DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on October 9, 2007

 DUMB, DE, DUMB, DUMB…….DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I want this to stand out from my other posts?  YES!

Now available TUMS FOR KIDS!!!!

WHAT?

I realize that companies out there want to get kids on the bandwagon as early as possible so they can GAIN BRAND LOYALTY for a LIFETIME.  BUT give me a BREAK!!!!!!

TUMS IS AN OTC MEDICATION THAT TASTES LIKE CANDY!

Before one rushes out to buy this product PLEASE think about what a child that needs TUMS is eating to cause the need for this OTC MEDICATION!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve used Tums (as an adult over 40) on occasion and they were effective for a short term solution (that evening).  However, I could never use up the huge bottles they come in now.  (Can you say popping them like CANDY?) I sure couldn’t find the little rolls they used to come in either…wonder why?  HMMM???

I must ponder some questions:

Are drug companies targeting our kids?

Are we ready to put our kids on the road to dependence?

Are drug companies about greed these days?

Can’t we remove the cause of THIS type of symptom (in most cases) by changing the diet?

Something to think about and be aware of so we aren’t DUMB, DE, DUMB, DUMB….DUMB!!!!!
