Escape and Release Your Gifts!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on June 8, 2009

Please don’t be so hard on yourself, others aren’t (at least people that really matter)!

Most of us struggle with self-consciousness issues. We can’t let that stop us!

I could name several people (who aren’t so nice) that are successful and put themselves out there all the time on TV and film. And then there are really nice people who give uplifting information and try to help (aka Oprah, if that end of the spectrum helps).

Those who know us know what we look like and still like or love us for the people we ARE!

Look at everyone around you that speaks well of you. bending over backwards to do so at times.  There is a large positive ripple effect there, why not be the stone that causes the ripple.

If all anyone cared about was what a person looked like then yikes, we’d all be like Hollywood…ick…what a depressing world that would be.  Picking each other apart instead of building each other up or working together.

Focus and capitalize on your strengths and forget about (what you perceive as) weaknesses…everyone wins that way! Why? You win and the people around you win because you share with them your gifts instead of coddling them in self-consciousness.

Sending love and good thoughts, Debi

Control

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on May 6, 2009

We all need to keep that in mind the following little eye opener….when we think we have to control it all or if we think we have it all under control…

A pastor had been on a long flight between church conferences. The first
warning of the approaching problems came when the sign on the airplane
flashed on: Fasten Your Seat Belts.
Then, after a while, a calm voice said, “We shall not be serving the
beverages at this time as we are expecting a little turbulence. Please be
sure your seat belt is fastened..”

As the pastor looked around the aircraft, it became obvious that many of the
passengers were becoming apprehensive. Later, the voice on the intercom
said, “We are so sorry that we are unable to serve the meal at this time.
The turbulence is still ahead of us.”
And then the storm broke .. . .

The ominous cracks of thunder could be heard even above the roar of the
engines. Lightning! lit up the darkening skies, and within moments that
great plane was like a cork tossed around on a celestial ocean. One moment
the airplane was lifted on terrific currents of air; the next, it dropped as
if were about to crash.

The pastor confessed that he shared the discomfort and fear of those around
him. He said, “As I looked around the plane, I could see that nearly all the
passengers were upset and alarmed. Some were praying. The future seemed
ominous and many were wondering if they would make it through the storm.

“Then, I suddenly saw a little girl. Apparently the storm meant nothing to
her. She had tucked her feet beneath her as she sat on her seat; she was
reading a book and every-
thing within her small world was calm and orderly.

“Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again; then she would
straighten her legs, but worry and fear were not in her world.
When the plane was being buffeted by the terrible storm when it lurched this
way and that, as it rose and fell with frightening severity, when all the
adults were scared half to death, that marvelous child was completely
composed and unafraid.” The minister could hardly believe his eyes.

It was not surprising therefore, that when the plane finally reached its
destination and all the passengers were hurrying to disembark, our pastor
lingered to speak to the girl whom he had watched for such a long time.
Having commented about the storm and the behavior of the plane, he asked why
she had not been afraid..

The child replied, “Cause my Daddy’s the pilot, and he’s taking me home.”

One Hundred Days with Little to No Change

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on April 28, 2009

What a mess we are in! And I am getting the full force of it all…coming and going!

Not only have many of my good investments gone down with the ship from greedy CEOs and board members being baled out but this tidal wave of tax and spend is nothing more than “robbing Peter to pay Paul” and means I will also get taxed to death.

When do those of us who’ve played by the rules, done the right thing and are law abiding citizens going to get treated right?

I mean it. I can hardly believe this is the America I pledge to….

It really makes me wonder if the small businesses I see here in Hampton Roads going out of business is because of true economic hard times or something else.

For years I’ve wondered how all these businesses competed and now I know…through massive debt, which was plainly stated by the President himself.

So now…our country is going to do the same thing…it really, really makes no sense whatsoever!

Why would you want to take something that is so bloated up and try to bloat it even more unless there was a reason?

So what is the reason…a depression? How will more debt make that go away? No one is making any sense any more.

It seems to be political posturing with global domination, power and greed…just like the past…nothing has changed…only the players.

For Terror or Worse…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on March 24, 2009

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blBohrmyo-I

I don’t mind someone running my name through a computer to see if I’m a terrorist…a murderer… or anything else illegal…unless…it is illegal to speak out about something…long pause

But after reports that Google and many other search engines keep all data and searches… Facebook wanting to keep all my information even if I delete my stuff…Facebook actually deleting an unfavorable comment I made last week….finding those New World Order videos just the other day (out of the blue…NOT looking for them), the constant yakity yak about globalization and now a benign referral to this video…it really makes one pause and wonder…

WHERE EXACTLY ARE WE HEADED?

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE tech!  I think this is remarkable technology and can be used to all kinds of good.  If only we could trust one another, ah yes, the ever elusive Utopia.

Databases…data being held about you from the time of your birth, where you are, etc. have been in existence for a long time…HOWEVER…it is getting easier, more people are selling their “proverbial souls” for the love and greed of money or power… AND (it is a big and too) “we the people” are sleeping…soundly, passively in our peaceful little worlds…it has happened before… more than once… recently… I pray it doesn’t happen again.  Then I realize I live in reality.

I’m truly not trying to be a fear-monger, the media does that well enough.  However, it isn’t like I’m out there looking for this stuff.   It comes to me, I share what I believe I’m to share.  Peace, love and joy to you.

By the way, Facebook has edited a recent post of mine.  It didn’t contain any thing anyone would consider rude or obscene.  It was a critic’s point of view of the recent change they made to their forum.  It gives me pause…a great pause.

Oh Tae…here is a thought:

The “ME” generation turned their kids into the “WE” socialist generation so the “ME” generation could do anything they wanted to do and then the “ME” generation would be taken care of by the “We” generation.

Movie: New In Town…Oddity

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on February 15, 2009

Thanks to my husband, on Valentine’s Day I got to see “New In Town” the movie with Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr. It was a simple, good movie. I enjoyed it.

However, I saw something strange duirng the movie. I searched the web but didn’t find anything about it. So…in case anyone else does a search maybe they will find my entry here.

During the scene that Zellweger walked with other carolers toward the Christmas tree, she looked into a crowd (in which Connick was standing) and in the crowd I saw something odd. But didn’t have enough time to distinguish what I was seeing and I’ve puzzled over it since.

Any one else have information to offer on that?

The Party is OVER…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on February 10, 2009

The spending party is over…we need a stimulus package…hmm

Seems like a contadiction in terms to me.

I was slightly impressed with the questions asked by the media. I was impressed with some of the president’s answers. He eluded to the truth the most when he said the spending party is over.  Yet it sounds like it isn’t if things are continuing as usual and we are going to spend our way out with more credit, more debt.

I’d like to have heard where all the money for the package coming from? Maybe that will be answered today.  Will someone please explain it in detail?  Now, where is the website?  Why can’t we see what they are arguing about now in this package?  Details…we need them.

Why didn’t the president have all these economist there with him to explain?  Why didn’t we just hear it all last night instead of having to wait until today…oh no upstaging anyone…even in a “crisis” isn’t allowed.

Did anyone hear the reason why the taxpayers aren’t getting more tax cuts to spend it? They don’t trust us to “spend” it.  Did you hear our president say that?

The reason being prudent thoughtful people would be saving it because it is going to get worse no matter what is done.  That is exactly why the banks aren’t spending their part.  Right now the banks are busy spending/defending why they aren’t spending the money and why they are spending money on their poor employees, for morale.  Wonder how that will make those that get laid off feel in a few months?

What a mess!  It hasn’t happened over night and has been going on since the 1960s when credit was available to the masses and credit cards became the “in” thing to have and then usher in the hippies and the greed of the 1980s, 1990s the decade of salary explosion, add 15 years of health care cost crisis and what do you get?

We are about to place a band aid on a large deep wound, just like we did in health care with HMOs.  It won’t work to solve the problem.  I doubt it will help in the short term either.

By the way, the fear mongering and the urgency factor are unbecoming to a person who campaigned against that very thing.

I wish I could see a real change…thus far, not so much…unless you want to move deeper into socialism…which we’ve been in for a long, long time…now it will be even deeper.

I Want to Take You HIGHER….

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on February 6, 2009

Fade out Sly and the Family Stone…Fade in the sounds of an auction…

Gimme a bid, wanna bid, how much ya gimme a bid?

800 Billion

Bidder,bidder,bidder,bidder, ho now gotta bidder.
Canna getabid, gimme a bid, wanna bid a little higher now.

900 BILLION

Hey now, gimme a bid, bidder, higher now, bidder, bidder, bidder;

920 BILLION

Oh yeah now, gimme a, gimme a, bidder, bidder, bidder…

Bidder,bidder,bidder,bidder, ho now gotta bidder.
Canna getabid, gimme a bid, wanna bid a little higher now.

935 BILLION

SOLD? YET?

Do I laugh or cry?

SOLD to the highest bidder goes America, once know as HOME of the FREE and the BRAVE.  SOLD to those who brought her to her knees with smoke screens and a fan dance, oil prices, who knew scruples went to the wind for a dollar.  SOLD to those who will own all interests on the back side too.  We are for sell and those that seek to destroy us will buy us…that is the real terror of it all.  Where do you think this money will come from…not just taxes…look closer…our country has been sold.  Follow the money?  We’ve been selling out for decades.

I think I need to cry and pray for all those that don’t know, all those that don’t get it, all those that think it doesn’t matter or are indifferent and all those who have spent or lost all their money.   Prepare yourself.

Letter to the President, Senate and all PoLITical Players

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on January 29, 2009

Dear Honorable Public Servants,

The changing of the guard has been noted.

Since you’ve been elected by ME; since you serve ME; I think it is about time you ANSWERED to ME!

Are you lit?  Booze, smoke, drugs (legal or illegal)?

Why do you continue to bail out companies and the people who ran them instead of having them pay back the salaries that they didn’t earn when making bad decisions or supporting bad management or running a company into the ground and making too much money for the position they held in a company?

WHY am I paying taxes to help support businesses who have been run into the ground by greedy upper management and stock holders?

Why do I have to pay for it?

 WHY?

Is it because I’m a hard working American who pays over 1/4th of my income to taxes and I get NO SAY in what I’m taxed for?  I now have to pay for all the mistakes of people who make millions more in one year than I will ever see in my lifetime…and they walk away with NO CONSEQUENCES?

WHY?

Why do we have to keep throwing money at it?  What ever, EVER happened to consequences?  Make the people who made the money and the mistakes PAY IT BACK in same!  Not jail time…money in fines and hold people ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!!!!   Just as I am holding YOU accountable for YOUR ACTIONS!   I AM WATCHING!  I AM LISTENING AND YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BECAUSE I AM HOLDING YOU ACCOUNTABLE!  You know, ME/WE the PEOPLE!

Greed and Corruption…that is what you call  it.  Whacky accounting practices…that’s what you call it.  Over paying top management and the ever increasing stock dividend for greedy stockholders…that’s what you call it.  “Thinking out of the box” accounting and removing all concrete thinking skills to make ungodly salaries…WHO needs 20 million a year to live on and WHO IS WORTH THAT AND WHY… are they pooping gold?

I will be holding YOU to the same principles I uphold myself; to be ACCOUNTABLE, RESPONSIBLE and accept CONSEQUENCES for better or worse.

And I’m just getting started…welcome to the world of CALLING YOUR BLUFF!  ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

With all DUE respect.

The Canvas Grey

Readers, please write your publicly elected officials and let them know that you hold them ACCOUNTABLE.  It is as easy as sending an email.

Echolalia – A mystery solved.

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on January 14, 2009

Echolalia

From Encarta:  the compulsive repetition of words spoken by somebody else.

From Wiki:  Immediate echolalia causes the immediate repetition of a word or phrase. In some autistic and Asperger’s cases it may be a method of buying time to help process language. In an instance a child with autism is asked, “Do you want dinner?” the child echoes back “Do you want dinner?” followed by a pause and then a response, “Yes. What’s for dinner?”

From Alex:  It helps me be calm until I think of what is next and sometimes I’m excited so I say it.

I love my Alex! He helps me understand!

Wow!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on January 5, 2009

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord’s Prayer are not allowed in most
public schools anymore and because the word ‘God’ is mentioned…
A 15 year old kid in Arizona wrote:

NEW School prayer:

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all
In silence alone we must meditate,
God’s name is prohibited by the state.

We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks..
They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the ‘unwed daddy,’ our Senior King.
It’s ‘inappropriate’ to teach right from wrong,
We’re taught that such ‘judgments’ do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It’s scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school’s a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

I want to seek and I shall find, that which will give me peace of mind.

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on December 27, 2008

I need to pull this mantra back out again and dust it off.

I’ve found that I’m the only one who cares about my own peace of mind.  I care tooooooo much about others and I need to let go and let God.  I don’t care what others think, because I know my intentions.  I do care if they need help.  I do care if they want help.

I think this caring too much cuts me the deepest because in my world (maybe yours too) it wasn’t about having “control” of it.   That has never been about control; it has been about my helpfulness and so I thought that was how others felt too.  I did and do things to help or because it needed (seemed to be needed) to be done AND no one else seemed willing/able/cared enough to do it.

For those of us (ME) who believe they are wanted or needed, trys to lend a hand, do the right thing, include people, yada, yada, ad nauseam, can unwittingly (in my case) become used or feel as though they are being used and allow others to become too dependent.  Especially (so I’ve recently noticed) among those that don’t express appreciation (cough…male gender…cough) or stand by and watch while the actual work is going on and then say, “You didn’t ask me for help or tell me what to do.”

My own little ditty:

So many times I jump in and take the critic’s tongue…boy, that is no fun!

So I look and I find…

Perfection is what one determines it to be
And so I decide to make perfection, me.
I am the perfect me as God has made me to be
I’m NOT perfect but perfect as I can be for being ME.

By me, for me hoping it may help YOU see; Let it be and be free!!!

Peace and joy in the New Year!

Always and forever…

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on November 24, 2008

There is always and forever a reason to be thankful.

Always a way to say I what I dare,

Alway a way to show that I care,

Always a way to know and to share.

There is always and forever a reason to be grateful.

Always a way to say it to others,

Always a way to show it to mothers,

Always a way to know between brothers.

There is always and forever a reason to celebrate.

Always a way to say that you knew.

Always a way to show that we miss you.

Always a way to know that our love is still true.

By me, Canvas Grey

Simple always says it best for me, the uncomplicated, genuine, thoughtful, loving, easy way.

Dedicated to Dad, we miss you but knowing that we can be thankful, grateful and  celebrate at our first Thanksgiving without you, knowing you are just on the other side.

FIVE-YEAR-OLD DEMANDS TO KNOW WHO THE NEW PRESIDENT IS!

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on November 3, 2008

“Who is the new president?”

“Voting is tomorrow.”

“WHO is the NEW presadent, Mom?”

“We go vote tomorrow and after that we will know.”

“When are we going to know who ‘it’ is?”

“Maybe late tomorrow evening, after you are in bed.”

“I need to know who the new president is because voting is important.”

“Yes, it is very important.  That is why Daddy and I take you with us when we go.”

“WHO IS THE NEW PRESDADENT?”

“We will know sometime on Wednesday, MAYBE.  That is all the information I can give you about when we will know who the new president will be, Young Son.”

“Well, I need to know who the new presadent is Mom.”

Ya know who this exchange reminded me of?  The media.

Dreams

Posted by TheCanvasGrey on October 26, 2008

I wanted to tell you about the dream I had about Dad last night.

We were at the funeral home.  I had gone to an upstairs closet or bathroom that lead to another room that went higher and then to a sun filled place.  Kim was there with me and Dad walked in, he was so young and he looked so wonderful, probably around 35 or 40ish.  The funeral director came to the door.   Dad stood there for a minute and smiled and then went into the room and walked toward the other room that went a little higher and then into the sunlight he went.  I turned to Kim and said, “Didn’t he look so great and young?”  Kim said, “No, Deb I could only see him as an older man.”  I turned to the funeral director and he nodded.  I went down stairs to where the coffin was and Mom was standing alone in front of it.  And at the last minute all of Mom’s siblings came in walking in a straight line, arm in arm, all dressed in black and surrounded her in a circle. (kind of a representation of her family gathering around her).

All in all it was a good dream.  I miss him.
